Thoughts: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2: Here We Go Again
Summer movie season is here, and with it comes the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time we're headed back into deep, deep space with Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, directed by James Gunn. Everything you liked in the first movie is back and amplified seven-fold.
Jump right back in the saddle with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel). These mercenaries for hire are once again tasked with saving the universe from the planet sized ego of... well... Ego (Kurt Russel) and his plan to assimilate all planets in the known universe. With the help of newcomer Mantis (Pom Klementiff), and returners Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu (Michael Rooker), can the Guardians come together as a family to defeat this celestial foe? The answer is yes, because its a Marvel movie, but how they do that is quite the spectacle.
This movie went the easy route in my book by taking the positive reactions from the first movie and amplifies it. It does not challenge anything or do anything different from its predecessor. That being said, it is still an enjoyable ride from start to finish and leaves you with a smile on your face. As for the soundtrack, while it may not be as memorable as the first, it does help carry the mood and movie and hopefully will become just as memorable.
Overall, this movie will not only make a butt-load of money, it will also keep a butt-load of followers as their favorite movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I can't wait to see what James Gunn has in store when he closes out this trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
