Jumanji Welcome to the Reboot
You probably remember Jumanji, the board game that came to life and became one of the best things about your childhood (Was it though? - Ed.) Well, it's back, but this time as a video game, with a star studded cast and updated CGI. So jump back into the jungle with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart.
So besides all the Sony ad placement, this film is actually pretty good, and way better than this film should ever be. What you may think of as a cash grab is actually quite the interesting re-imagining of the classic film. There are plenty of video game tropes that this goes through and end up being a fun good time at the theaters. Your younger self would have been way into this film as it could turn out to be a hit of a generation. This isn't a misstep for Dwayne Johnson and is instead a revitalization for Jack Black. It's good to see him back in the foray just out of the spotlight, but instead plays his character with the exact charm you would come to expect from the comedian great.
However, if you happen to be over the age of 15, this film may get away from you near the end as it goes full video game in the third act. It finishes with a big CGI-fest and a big battle that can be quite boring. Kevin Hart adds nothing to this film and even the other star Karen Gillen only has one good scene before being sidelined as the generic girl in a game. If you happen to catch it on-demand or streaming, then it could be worth it for an afternoon.
