Thoughts: Dead men tell so-so tales

It's a pirate's life for Johnny Depp as he robs the audience for yet another ride on the high seas with Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. This movie definitely shows its budget on screen with great special effects, costumes, and Johnny Depp. Joining this romp is long time pirate Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa) and new comer Javier Bardem (Salazar) taking on Depp (Sparrow) in search of Poseidon's Trident.

Honestly, you could take Depp out of this movie and still have a fun adventure on the high seas. Not only that, this movie is what we wanted for the previous movie. It wraps up the original trilogy with a nice bow while possibly setting up a sequel with new pirates Brenton Thwaites (Henry Turner) and Maya Scodelario (Carina Smyth). Unfortunately, instead we got On Stranger Tides, which turned a lot of people off of the Pirates franchise.

While there is a lot of good in this movie, it is riddled with plot holes and a lackluster treasure hunt. Still, check it out if you've already seen everything else because you might enjoy what could be the last Pirates movie (until the inevitable reboot). Depp, and Disney, should retire this character and send it out to sea.
