Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout mayhem

Add one part Battle Royale to equal parts MXC and Wipeout, and sift through a Looney Tunes filter and you get Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. This wacky game has no actual violence by substituting the gun gameplay that other battle royale games use with platforming obstacles and other mini games. Best of all it’s currently free on PlayStation for the month of August (with a PS+ subscription).

One of the worst feelings you can get with battle royal games is failure from being the first ones eliminated. There is no redemption or trial and error that comes with those games without starting over in a new session. That’s the beauty of Fall Guys, as they tier each game session with five mini games to determine a champion. Each session starts with obstacle courses, knocking the competition down from sixty players to forty-two to the next round. The middle round games vary from an array of team based games that cuts the field down even further. This leads to the final mini game where only ten players compete for the crown. The mini games last roughly three to five minutes per round, meaning you can get through a complete game in fifteen minutes.

The cute artistic style lends itself to an inviting nature that anybody can pick up and play. The fast gameplay combines well with the competitive mini games to create a fun and diverse experience. The experience meter also lends itself to a continued goal with each new level roughly 300 xp in the early levels. There are microtransactions built in for more skins, costumes, patterns, and emotes that you can buy using coins, but you also earn coins the more games you play and the further you get.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a fun game that anybody can pick up and play. The controls are uncomplicated for everybody to understand and competing the quick levels achieve the sense of accomplishment. The simplicity that the platforming genre lends itself makes this game a lot of fun to play with plenty of replay value even after you have taken 1st place.
