Mike's Movie Preview: July 2023
Summer Twenty Three continues with demons, Marvels, Tom Cruise, atomic bombs, and Barbie.
Insidious: The Red Door - Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne are back as the demon hunting couple in the fifth installation of the series. The demons of the previous films haunt their son and the family will have to band together to put this demon to rest. Yes, they win by the end, but at what cost (?!) as people line up to see this box office hit.
Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning - One of the last true box office draws, Tom Cruise is on his penultimate mission where the stakes are high and the stunts are even higher, as he flies through the air and runs everywhere (in that patented Tom Cruise style - ed.). Unfortunately, we will have to wait a year for the conclusion.
Barbie - Greta Gerwig turns the iconic character into a special film. While Barbie has been traditionally about outside beauty, Gerwig takes this chance to show inner beauty and that there is a Barbie inside of all of us. Plus, the big dance number is a sight to behold unto itself.
Oppenheimer - What is the weight of man’s duty unto the world? Christopher Nolan takes us through the drama of the creation of the atomic bomb in this beautifully stylized film. It may not be for everybody, but it shows why Nolan is one of the top directors in Hollywood right now.
The Marvels - The 3rd Marvel film of the year is a sequel to Captain Marvel from 2019, WandaVision from 2021 and Ms. Marvel from 2022. This is the crossover event that MCU fans have been waiting for as the main story line of this phase of films runs directly through this film and unto the future.
