Thoughts: Detroit Riot City

Katheryn Bigelow's new film Detroit follows the events of the Algiers Hotel shooting on July 25th, 1976. This movie uses court testimony and eyewitness accounts to construct the narrative of the film. With that in mind, Detroit doesn't shy away from police brutality and civilian riots. Much like The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Bigelow puts the audience in the middle of high stress situations with no room for error.

Thoughts: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Mistakes

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is quite a mouthful, and even more of a spectacle. This latest one is brought to us by Marvel Studios and it definitely shows.

Thoughts: Cars 3 Legacy

Well, its better than Cars 2, but that's not a high bar to meet. While Cars was about taking it slow, Cars 3 is about to take it even slower as retirement looms for Lightning McQueen. He's now the old car in a field of new hot shot racers designed to be better, faster, and stronger. The start of this movie had a Rocky Balboa feel to it, but lost its themes along the way as the ending is super predictable.

Thoughts: Dead men tell so-so tales

It's a pirate's life for Johnny Depp as he robs the audience for yet another ride on the high seas with Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. This movie definitely shows its budget on screen with great special effects, costumes, and Johnny Depp. Joining this romp is long time pirate Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa) and new comer Javier Bardem (Salazar) taking on Depp (Sparrow) in search of Poseidon's Trident.
